Moving Tips

  • Check your owner’s manuals of large appliances to see if there are special instructions for moving.
  • Pack all of your essential items that you will need right after a move into a single box and make sure it's the last thing loaded on the truck or trailer.
  • Once the decision has been made to move start cleaning out the attic, basement and closets first.
  • Keep all your cleaning supplies, brooms, mops, etc... in one location, so you can easily find them for a final clean up after your house is packed.
  • Make sure you have scheduled or transfereed your cable, satellite, phone and utility services.
  • Cancel or transfer any lawn care, house cleaning or pet services you might have.
  • Mail in your change of address forms.
  • Defrost any freezers you have a day in advance of your move.

Packing Tips

  • Try to pack each room in its own boxes and label those boxes with the room name.
  • Put your empty suitcases to work and pack your clothes in them.
  • Use small boxes for books. They can get heavy fast.
  • Pack dishes vertical to keep them from breaking.
  • Use packing tape instead of duct dape.
  • Label both the side and top of all your boxes.
  • Place any small hardware like screws and bolts in plastic baggies and tape those baggies to the furniture or appliance they go with.
  • Pack items that you don't use often ahead of time.
  • Always use boxes with tops so that they can be stacked in a truck or trailer.
  • Always tape your boxes close. Do not interlock the flaps.
